deBono’s PMI, CAF, C&S, APC…

The following are some of the teaching techniques used by Edward de Bono

  • PMI – Plus, Minus & Interesting. Students were asked to think of an outlandish statement, and in three columns write down all the points they can think of to be plus factors, then all minus factors & lastly all the reasons the proposition could be interesting.
  • CAF – Consider All Factors. write down all factors the immediately spring to mind
  • C&S – Consequence & Sequel. logically both should be listed under CAF, but de Bono says that most people just do not consider all the consequences unless their attention is specifically drawn to them.
  • APC – Alternatives, Possibilities & Choices. a list that encourages you to speculate.
  • Six thinking hats.
